Thousands of Americans have been struck down in the simple act of walking, overwhelmingly on roads that are dangerous by design, with little or no provision for people on foot, in wheelchairs or on a bicycle.
And it’s no wonder our streets are engineered like this. The federal government and many state departments of transportation have made a dangerous choice, prioritizing speeding traffic over the safety of people, even in our neighborhoods.
Congress is now on the verge of making the situation even worse. They’re debating the elimination of the already meager funding for pedestrian and bike safety.
Tell them not to make such a short-sighted tradeoff. Protect and increase the funding to make our streets safe for all users.
