Living Streets Alliance is excited to partner with Bookmans Sports Exchange on Speedway and the UA Cycling Club to bring you the first ever “Coldest Day of the Year Ride”.
What: A leisurely, costumed, family-friendly bike ride to explore Tucson’s best hidden bike paths and unique neighborhoods. See the route map here.
When: Sunday, January 4th
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Where: The ride starts and ends at Bookmans Sports, 3330 E. Speedway Blvd.
From the Bookmans Sports event website, here’s what to expect at this fun event:
We are spoiled in the Sonoran Desert. We have endless stretches of sunny days that allow us to stay on two wheels. It’s easy to get out when the Mercury hovers at 80 degrees. The real challenge is pedaling your bike when the temperature dips below the 40 degrees mark. Show your dedication to cycling by participating in our inaugural Coldest Day of the Year Ride here in Tucson.
Join us for a goofy ride in Tucson’s coldest weather of the year. The ride begins behind our store. We will take a 15-mile excursion around the central part of town. Our ride has a leisurely no-drop policy. We will stop for the group at lights and ride together. Temperature dictates that you wear multiple layers. Of course, that means you should be in costume (if you want). Stay warm with tutus, doctor’s scrubs and viking garb. We will award prizes for the best costumes.
Bring your mom, your dog, your spouse or your mouse. This is a family friendly event and helmets are strongly suggested. Our friends from the University of Arizona Cycling team and the Living Streets Alliance join us for the frigid festivities. Crawl out of hibernation to take part in the coolest ride around. The Coldest Day of the Year Ride is a frigid fiesta you must attend.
