On Thursday, March 12th, LSA made the difficult decision to cancel our upcoming Cyclovia Tucson event scheduled for Sunday, March 29th. We did this as a precautionary measure to help reduce the potential spread of the novel COVID-19 virus, as the Tucson community is of the utmost importance to our organization.
For obvious reasons, canceling this event had a significant financial impact on our organization, but it was fully worth it to keep every member of our community safe and healthy. As an organization whose fundamental existence is rooted in bringing community together, the announcement to close area schools and prevent public gatherings has put LSA in a tough spot. Work that we do to engage community in a meaningful way, build capacity within schools and neighborhoods, and advocate with the public is now not possible for the foreseeable future.
LSA needs your help! Our team remains committed to this work and is already adapting and adjusting our timelines and workplan. All the same, we need your help to ensure that LSA is here to to jump back into action once things have settled down.
We’ve set up an emergency fundraising goal to raise $25,000 to cover up to 5 months of operational expenses that don’t stop even when everything else does—insurance, rent and utilities, group health insurance, our database and communications fees, and so on. Every dollar helps!
Please pitch in by making a one-time emergency contribution, or by signing up to give a small amount each month to help LSA stay afloat!
