Whimsical Bike Count #2 – Calling All Bikes with Baskets and Racks!
May 28, 2015 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Do you get on your two wheels as part of your daily routine to get to work, pick up kids, buy groceries, etc. — in other words, as a means of transportation in your normal, everyday clothes? Then you’re a part of Tucson’s “everyday biking” scene! The national advocacy organization People for Bikes is on a quest to name the everyday biking capital of the United States through a series of monthly themed bike counts. Unlike the “serious” and “scientific” bike counts, these are all about “fun” and “whimsy.” (You can read more here.)
Each month’s count has a separate theme and May is the month of bikes with baskets or racks. (Bonus points if you basket is full of flowers.) Does your two-wheeled companion have a basket or a rack? If so, we invite you to ride by the intersection of 4th Avenue & University Boulevard between 4:30pm – 5:30 pm. We’ll be counting bikes in front of Epic Cafe, so give us a holler, ding your bell or throw us some flowers!
Running up the score is highly encouraged, so bring your friends along and help us declare Tucson the “everyday biking capital” of the U.S.!
Here’s what’s in store for the upcoming months:
- June 25: Skirts and dresses
- July 30: Lycra or other spandex kits
- August 27: Kids on bikes (passengers included)
- September 24: Business attire (jackets, blouses, ties, office-friendly skirts and dresses)
