Whimsical Bike Count #5 – Kids on Bikes (passengers included)
August 27, 2015 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Do you get on your two wheels as part of your daily routine to get to work, pick up kids, buy groceries, etc. — in other words, as a means of transportation in your normal, everyday clothes? Then you’re a part of Tucson’s “everyday biking” scene! The national advocacy organization People for Bikes is on a quest to name the everyday biking capital of the United States through a nationwide competition that involves a series of monthly themed bike counts. Unlike the “serious” and “scientific” bike counts, these are all about “fun” and “whimsy.” (You can read more here.)
Each month’s count has a separate theme and August is the month of Kids on Bikes. Passengers count, too, so bring out those cargo bikes, bike trailers, and child seats! We’ll be fitting and giving away FREE helmets to all the kiddos who need them and show you how to interact safely with the streetcar tracks.
RSVP on our facebook page and let us know if you’ll be riding by the intersection of 4th Avenue & University Boulevard between 4:30pm – 5:30 pm. We’ll be counting bikes in front of Epic Cafe. Running up the score is highly encouraged, so bring your friends along and help us declare Tucson the “everyday biking capital” of the U.S!
Here’s what’s in store for the upcoming months:
- September 24: Business attire (jackets, blouses, ties, office-friendly skirts and dresses)
- October 29: Costumes (Happy Halloween!)
- November 19: Beards
