Faces of Open Streets

The Faces Behind Open Streets

Dear Friends,

This summer we're celebrating the community that brings Cyclovia to life. Those who show up to create joy and vibrancy in our streets. Volunteers who pitch in on event prep at our monthly volunteer nights. Donors who ensure our work remains sustainable. Partners who collaborate with us to bring meaningful and lasting impact to Cyclovia.

Community members like Sofia Moraga Franco, a Tucsonan who advocates for livable, joyful streets through her investment in community. Sofia has ridden with LSA as our former Bike and Community Initiatives Coordinator and is a longtime volunteer and participant of Cyclovia Tucson, where you've probably seen her cheering along an intersection with bubbles or cruising the route with her skeleton companion in tow. Sofia also sustains our work as a monthly donor - gifts that ensure our work remains expansive and ambitious. And now, Sofia is here to give us an inside look into Cyclovia production and tell us what she loves about the event and Open Streets...

"There's a lot more to Cyclovia than meets the eye. This community event isn't just a wonderful way to get out on our streets to walk, bike and play. It’s also a collaborative effort between the community where the route runs and the Living Streets Alliance staff. From coordinating resource fairs for neighbors, to having an art market and health hubs, to hosting community cleanups leading up to the big day.
The folks at Living Streets spend long hours working with neighbors to make sure every voice is heard. Not to mention coordinating the logistics of food vendors and activities along the route! It's a monumental effort by a small crew of likeminded people, working hard to make Cyclovia a reality for us lucky Tucson residents.

I support Cyclovia because it’s one of the best ways to show Tucson how streets can look and feel if safety is prioritized by our city. I support Cyclovia because Tucson deserves streets where we can bike, walk, play and have fun, not just twice a year, but every day."

-Sofia Moraga Franco

Cyclovia Tucson is produced by a small nonprofit, Living Streets Alliance. Working with dedicated partners and sponsors we reclaim and transform the streets for 50,000 people every event! It takes a ton of time, passion, and resources and we can’t do it without your support!
