In order to build a resilient Tucson over the next 20 years, RTA Next (the reauthorization of our region’s 1/2 cent sales tax to fund transportation) needs to center equity and climate protection. This means that it needs a diverse pool of Tucsonans serving on the Citizens Advisory Committee to ask questions that currently aren’t being asked, ensure transparency and accountability, and to represent voices and perspectives that are missing from the transportation decision-making table right now.

Apply for a seat on the Citizens Advisory Committee!

To ensure that the RTA is aligned with the needs and desires of all Tucsonans, our goal is to get a diverse pool of people to apply (and hopefully get selected!) for the RTA Citizens Advisory Committee. That means you!

Click on the button below to fill out an application online. If you have questions about the application or need help applying, we’re here to help. Contact us. And, we encourage you to let us know if you do apply, so we track and affirm that applications were submitted by many people.

Lastly, if you do end up getting selected, know that you’re not alone. Navigating a citizens advisory committee is not always easy. We’re here to provide support and help ensure that you have the resources to show up to meetings, and an outlet to debrief and strategize as needed.

Deadline to apply is Friday, September 10th at Noon

Residents needed to help shape regional planning

Do you know someone who wants to actively help improve our community and our region? Someone who can give a few hours a month to help plan for the area’s future? Does this sound like you?

The Regional Transportation Authority is seeking applicants for its Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). Applicants may be residents from anywhere in Pima County and may be selected for a three-year term to help draft the next 20-year regional transportation plan. The committee currently has 22 members, who are entering their second three-year term, and can have up to 35 members.

The committee is designated to provide input on and develop the next RTA regional transportation plan for RTA Board consideration. Once approved by the board, an election date will be set.

The committee typically meets virtually one or two times per month for approximately two hours at a time.

The application deadline is noon Friday, Sept. 10.

How to apply:

Complete the online application, or

Download a fillable form and mail the completed form no later than Sept. 5, 2021 (to allow time for delivery) to:

[And here’s info directly from the RTA’s website:]

The Pima Association of Governments (PAG) and Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) is developing a draft regional transportation plan for the greater Tucson region. The current 20-year RTA plan and half-cent excise (sales) tax to fund the plan, which were voters approved in May 2006, are effective through June 2026.

The CAC is collaborating with the RTA Technical Management Committee on technical matters and to jointly recommend a draft RTA plan to the RTA Board for approval and eventual voter consideration.

Development of the new plan is a citizen-driven effort. Once the CAC prepares a draft plan, the RTA will conduct broad public outreach to seek feedback on the plan before the CAC recommends a final draft to the RTA Board.

All meetings are open to the public.
