I supported the recent reduction of speeds on Tucson streets in Ward 3 where safety studies showed this would save lives, and advocated and was successful for including Roger Road in this group of speed reductions. I made sure the City of Tucson strongly argued (and we were successful) to reduce the RTA First Avenue project so that unneeded lanes will not be added, but all the much-needed safety features will go forward. My staff and I promote and distribute the SLOW DOWN signs that our transportation department make available free of charge to residents. We have been involved in the outreach and have supported the bike boulevard projects in Ward 3, such as Treat and Blacklidge Bike Boulevards. I have attended every Cyclovia event since I was elected to this office, and made significant contributions of discretionary Ward 3 money to every Cyclovia in Ward 3, and the Cyclovita in Amphi. We helped sponsor a resource fair in the Amphi neighborhood, and Ward 3 paid Bikas to do bike repairs and hand out helmets for young bike riders.

I am commited to support fare free public transit in Tucson.

In addition to continuing to support fare free transit, I am fearful that if future budgets are tight the council will bring back fares -- unless we have a dedicated source of funding. I am starting to talk to my colleagues about doing a sales tax that is dedicated to transit and housing, that would have to go to a vote.

I am so thankful that the RTA has a new Executive Director (and for that matter, some new representatives from some of the other municipalities). I will be looking for better management and better communication. In general, I support regional planning, but have not been happy with RTA in the last three years that I have been on council. I hope that a new "RTA Next" proposal can be negotiated that is more responsive to the modern-day transportation needs for Tucson.

I will do what I do now, drive my plug-in Prius Prime that runs mostly on electricity generated by the solar panels on my home.
