TOMORROW: Living Streets Alliance Hosts Forum on Why RTA Next Falls Short

Tucson, AZ (February 16, 2026) – With Propositions 418 and 419 on the March ballot, Tucson voters are being asked to decide the future of regional transportation for the next 20 years. Tomorrow, Living Streets Alliance (LSA) will host “Let’s Talk RTA Next,” a community forum to examine what’s at stake, unpack concerns with the current proposal, and explore stronger, community-driven alternatives.

The event will take place Tuesday, February 17, from 5:30–7:30 PM at 4th Ave Coalition Space (311 E. 7th St.).

Propositions 418 and 419 — collectively referred to as RTA Next — would extend the regional transportation sales tax for 20 years. LSA has taken an organizational position opposing the plan, citing concerns about equity, local control, transit investment, and climate-smart planning. The forum will provide a clear overview of these concerns, examine key tradeoffs, and create space for community members to ask questions and engage in discussion about what comes next.

Speakers Include:

·      Albert Elías – Native Tucsonan and University of Arizona graduate; city planner and former public administrator, and LSA board member.

·      Logan Havens – LSA board member and City of Tucson Housing Commission commissioner; architectural photographer and designer exploring housing, land use, and ecology to create functional, beautiful spaces.

·      Dr. Arlie Adkins – Associate professor of urban planning at the University of Arizona; he holds a Ph.D from Portland State University and a master’s degree in city planning from UC Berkeley.

·      Vanessa Cascio – Executive Director of Living Streets Alliance and public health leader, with local and national in transportation policy.

The forum will provide a clear overview of LSA’s critiques of RTA Next, examine key tradeoffs, explore community-driven alternatives, and offer guidance for attendees who want to stay informed and involved.

“This forum is for anyone who cares about the future of our region and wants to understand what’s at stake, what’s missing in RTA Next, and how to help advance a stronger, community-driven approach,” said Vanessa Cascio, LSA Executive Director.
